Following is text of question and Answer given on 29th January about Hong Kong University:-
Mr. Rees-Williams asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the great place the University of Hong Kong could take in the cultural and educational life of the Far East, he will make a statement on the rebuilding, re-equipment and enlargement of the scope and f'unctions or this university.
Mr. Creech Jones: A committee representative of the universities in this country and of local interests has advised me on the future of the Hong Kong University. The recommendations of this Committee which take account of the important considerations mentioned by my hon. Friend are at present under examination in consultation with other Departments concerned and I hope to make a statement in the near future.
