Mr. Ivor Thomas.
You might find it useful and interesting to have a talk some time with Dr. Sloss, the Vice-Chancellor of Hong Kong University
who is over here until about the 25th October. Dr.Sloss is going out of Town quite shortly Ne gu da oduntil the 6th of October when he will return
for a talk on the following day with the Department here about the report of the J11 Hong Kong Salaries Commission over which he
at the request of Sir Mark Young, has presided for the last few months.

Dr.Sloss is a member of our Inter- University Education Council. He is of course much concerned to secure the rehabilitation and resettlement of the Hong Kong University and had hoped for its considerable expansion in ways recommended by an interdepartmental committee here some two years ago. He now realises that on financial grounds expansion is out of the question, but I am afraid that in the se circumstances he will not be prepared to continue as Vice-Chancellor of the University for more than another year at the most.
If you decide to see Dr.Sloss some time after the 7th of October, Mr.Mayle should be asked for a note bringing you up-to-date on any matters that he is likely to raise.
