The letter from Dr. Rita Hinden at No. 33 urges that action to rehabilitate the University on a generous scale should be taken quickly. The letter makes the point that this question is now becoming particularly urgent because of the absence of a reassuring authoritative public statement about the future of the Colony. The point which I have side-lined Y/ in No. 33 is one that has already been made on these papers.

We know also that there is much truth in the passage marked X/.

The present position with regard to our proposals for the re-establishment of the University is that we are now awaiting a reply to Sir T. Lloyd's letter to the Treasury of the 27th June (see No. 31). In the circumstances the Secretary of State may wish to write to Dr. Hinden as in draft opposite.
