British children to quit riot city by air

PLANES will begin today evacuation of British women

and children from Canton, commercial capital of South China, where rioters yesterday burned the British Consulate.

As the children waited for the planes last night in houses belonging to other Consulates they heard mobs of angry Chinese shouting anti-British slogans after the worst demonstrations yet.

The riots followed an announcement that the Chinese Government had protested

to Britain about two Chin- | ese being gaoled in the British colonv of Hong Kong.

The Chinese Premier. General Chang Chu n, called last night a meeting of Government officials, and ordered all rioters to be severely punished
