KOWLOON CLASH STIRS OVER NINETY NEWSMEN,

HONG KONG GOVERNMENT CRITICIZED

Emotion ran wild last evening when several editors and publishers of leading newspapers declared they would not use the official Hong Kong version of the clash yesterday morning at Kowloon "walled" city when four to six persons were injured by armed police.

This stand was echoed by practically all the newspapermen present who happened to be the guests of Mr. Cheng Keh haiang, head of the Provincial News Bureau, at Kow Yew Yuen Restaurant at Educational Road. In the course of the dinner, an official of the News Bureau read the Hong Kong version of the clash and said it was supplied by Reuters News Agency through the "ritish Information office.

The guests showed emotion at hearing the news. Mr. Soong Yu man, managing editor of the independent Tai Kwong Po said he was sorry for the Chinese who were hurt and asked all present to remain silent for two minutes Ag a mark of regret, This was done by all the guests

who rose up.

EDITORS ARE MOVED

Mr. Yao Chun ming, editor of the independent Chien Kuo Jih Pao, stood up and said that while the issue remained unsettled, all newspapers should not subscribe Reuters service and should not use the news supplied by the British Information Service. Similar views were expressed by Mr. Lin Po-ya, publisher of the Chung Shan Jih Pao, official Kuomintang paper, Kr. Li chin-shih, publisher of the independent Kuo Hua Pao and editor of the Sing Pao, and Mr. Liang Shan-wen, manager of Shan Pao and others.

The excitement lasted for some time. The host, r. Cheng Keh hsiang, said the news was given without responsibility of his bureau and was distributed for general information through the courtesy of Keuters.

Editors then announced that a joint editorial will be published this morning by all vernacular papers age in taking the Hong Kong government to task for the bloodshed of yesterday morning.

HOST PROMISES HELP

The dinner last evening was attended by over ninety newspapermen including publishers, editors and chief reporters. The host and guests were in a very happy mood pledging full co-operation. Using a new precedent, the first person to speak was Kr. Fan Chi ching, manager of the Central News Agency who was followed by Mr. Cheng who said he is trying to give news from various countries for the benefit of local papers. He was thanked by all his guests.

Gaiety prevailed until smost at the conclusion of the dinner when the official British version of the clash was read. Newsmen were glad to have an opportunity to to give vent to their sentiment: This news is to be played
