Power to promote or oppose Bills.

Sanction of the Council to promotion of, or opposition to, Bills.

120.

Promotion of and Opposition to Bills.

Where the Council are satisfied that it is expedient

to promote or oppose any Bill in the Legislature, they may

promote or oppose the Bill accordingly, and may defray the

expenses incurred in relation thereto;

Provided that nothing in this Part of this Ordinance

shall authorise the promotion of a Bill for the establishment

of any undertaking to compete with any existing undertaking

established under an Ordinance.

121.

(1) A resolution to promote or oppose a Bill under

the powers conferred by this Part of this Ordinance shall not

be effective inless passed by a majority of the whole number

of the members of the Council at a meeting thereof held after

ten clear days' notice of the meeting and of the purpose

thereaf has been given by advertisement in one or more

newspapers published in the Colony, such notice being given in

addition to the ordinary notice required to be given for the

convening of a meeting of the Concil.

(2) In the case of the promotion of a Bill, the

resolution shall be published in one or more newspapers

published in the Colony and shall be submitted to the Governor

for his approval, and the Council shall not proceed with the

promotion of the Bill if the Governor notifies the Council

that he disapproves the resolution.

The approval of the Governor/shall not be given until

the expiration of seven days after the publication of the

resolution, and in the meantime any registered elector may give

me

notice in writing to the Governor of his objection thereto.
