PART V
(1) The Council shall have power to appoint

deputy of the clerk of the Council, Municipal Treasurer,
Medical Officer of Health or lunicipal Surveyor for the
purpose of acting in the place of such officer whenever the
office is vacant or the holder thereof is for any reason.

terms of his appointment, have all the functions and powers
of the holder of that office:
Provided that a person shall not be appointed a deputy
medical officer of health without the consent of the Governor
and a person to be so appointed must be a duly qualified
medical practitioner.
(2) The Council may pay to a person appointed as a
deputy under this section such reasonable remuneration as
they may determine, and every such deputy shall hold office
during the pleasure of the Council.
60. (1) If the office of clerk of the Council,
Municipal Treasurer, Medical Officer of Health or Municipal
Surveyor is vacant, or the holder of the office is for any
reason unable to act, and no deputy has been appointed under
the provisions of the last preceding section, or the deputy so
appointed is unable to act, the Council may appoint a person
to act temporarily in that office, and any person so appointed
shall, subject to the terms of his appointment, have all the
functions and powers of the holder of that affice:
Provided that a person shall not be appointed to act in
the place of a medical officer of health without the consent
of the Governor, and a perspn to be so appointed must be a duly
qualified medical practitioner.
(2) The Council may pay to a person appointed as a deputy
under this section such reasonable remuneration as they may
determine, and every such deputy shall hold office during the
pleasure of the Council.
