I refer to my letter of the 26th May last on
the subject of the control of the port of Hong Kong.
I communicated with our representative in the
(2) Far East and sent him copies of your letter of the 19th May and the Governor's dispatch No. 59 dated 20th March, 1948. I have now received from him two letters, one dated 5th June, and the other, 10th July, and I think I cannot do better than to enclose you copies. You will note that the second of these two letters is marked Confidential and I shall be glad if you will treat it as such..
You may care to take Mr. Allen's advice in regard to Mr. Baker being asked to serve on the Committee and to suggest to the Governor that the Commissioner of Labour himself might be asked to serve, at least as an interim measure.
Perhaps you will let me know in due course what
you think of our representative's comments.
Yours sincerely,
Pri Milbonen
P. ERIC MILLBOURN.
