Report on British Children who have returned

to School in the Colony.
There has been during the past year a marked improvement in the standard of education in the Colony, and the effects of intern- mentare being gradually overcome. This improvement is due in some measure to the arrival of text books and equipment from England and the progress made in the rehabilitation of the School Buildings.
Seventeen pupils of the King George V School entered for the Cambridge School Leaving Certificate; of these 14 passed, nine qualifying for exemption from the Matriculation. Examination. Three of the pupils who sat were interned and of these 1 passed with ex- emption from Matriculation, 1 passed and 1 failed. The average age of the pupils who sat this examination was 17 years 5 months.
The following observations refer only to the 10 age groups and it must be borne in mind that the King George V School is the only school of its kind in the Colony catering for European Children. Further, apart from exceptional cases, no child is refused admittance through inability to pass the entrance test in his or her particular age group. The result is that the two streams one normally finds in any school are more clearly defined here. 59.5% of the School is of normal standard, the reason for the lower standard of the remainder may be attributed to
(a) Broken education due to the war.
(b) poor groundwork compared with pre-war English Standards.
(c) different types of curricula and methods used in various
parts of the Empire and Freign countries.
The following give an interesting comparison of the fi-
