of 28 Palestine Officers originally selected for transfer to Hong Kong Inspectorate in consultation with Mr. Macintosh, two have declined and seven have been offered and have accepted gazetted appointments in Malaya, whose priority needs at present I am sure you will recognize.

2. of the 19 who have accepted transfer to Hong Kong, J. Duffy, M. W. Gingles, T. F. Harney, S. Mackenzie, C. G. arch, T.K. Malynn, H. V. McCreton, D. F. Morris, N.k. I. O'Reilly, A. G. Rose, E. C. Sharp, .B. Smith, and E. H. ells, have already left this country by sea or air, D. G. Carty, and A. A. Bagott will leave by air on the 17th and 24th September respectively, and Anderson, J. O'Connor, T. Kavanagh and W. Ro,chill leave as soon as passagescan be arranged.

Palestine Police Office has been asked to recommend officers to fill nine remaining vacancies. Do you agree we should proceed imediately to appoint on this basis? Or would you prefer, reference paragraph 3 of your telegram No. 510, that candidates should be interviewed by Mr. Pennefather-Evans before offers are made? If the latter, I will approach air. Pennefather-Avans. Please telegraph reply.
