Thank you for your letter to Rumbold of the 24th January (No.608) about the decision of the Takistan Goverment not to permit the recruitment of Lakistani nationals for police and similar duties in Hong Kong, and the possibility that a similar decision may be reached in respect of Aden.

In view of the disappointment that this my cause. we shall be very interested to learn whatever explanation you can discover of the reasons for this decision. It may well be connected, as you suggest, with the recent outburst of feeling over indonesia, and possibly there may be some hope that after an interval when that agitation has died down the decision about recruitent may be reviewed?
