I refer to your letter of the 24th June requesting approval for the increased rates for the Chinese Section of the Hong Kong Police Force.
In the circumstances described we agree to the proposals for higher pay for the Chinese rank and file set out in telegram No. 1366 of 8th January from Civil Affairs Hong Kong, to the War Office. I gather from Howitt's letter of 23rd April that the total cost of these new rates in 1946 is tentatively estimated at H.K. $652,560.
