INMEDIATE

No. 400. Secret.

My telegram No. 1475 of 1946.

Indian Police.

Government of India have replied as follows;

Government of India are opposed to employment of Indians as Policemen in Foreign countries and cannot agree to proposed visit of a Punjabi speaking European Assistant Superintendent of Police for recruitment of Indians for Hong Kong police.

In view of this reply there seems no alternative but to abandon the proposal to retain an Indian contingent.
