No. 5499.

Your telegram 3372 dated March 13th 1947 to Home Department regarding return to Hong Kong of Indian Policemen reported to be on leave in India.

The Government of India have no information regarding 'the number, o° Indian Policemen in Hong Kong Police now on leave in India nor when and in what circumstances they came here. There is no ban on Indians of classes other than unskilled labourers departing from India to any place abroad. but Goverment of India do not wish to associate themselves in any way with encouragementnof employment of Indians as policemen in countries outside India. They regret, therefore, that they must refuse to be parties, to any arrangements for early return to Hong Kong of former members of Hong Kong Police and cannot in any case agree to sending of officers to India for organising their return-
