Secret,
My secret telegram No.596.
Indian Police.
Government of India have now replied
as follows:
Begins: The Government of India have
no information regarding the number of Indian
Policemen in Hong Kong Police now on leave in
India nor when and in what circumstances they
came here. There is no ban on Indians of
classes other than unskilled labourers departing
from India to any place abroad, but Government
of India do not wish to associate themselves
in any way with encouragement of employment of Indians as policemen in countries outside.
India.
They regret, therefore, that they must
refuse to be parties, to any arrangements for
early return to Hong Kong of former members
of Hong Kong Police and cannot in any case
agree to sending of officers to India for
organising their return.
Ends.
