Your secret telegram No. 1046 of 5th July, 1947. Indian Police

Contingent.

1.

The question of the nationality and status of Indians

in the Hong Kong Police Force has been carefully considered in the

2281/4 light of your secret circular telegram No. 20 of 15th March, 1947,

and will be kept under review.

2.

I concur with your view that those Indian officers who

do not within a reasonable period express their willingness to return

to duty should be regarded as having vacated their appointments rather

than as having been dismissed.

The instructions to this Government's

representative in India have been amended accordingly.
