I beg to report on the present situation of the Statistical Section and what we have done.
There is at present no statistical clerk at all. I am in charge of the Accounts Section while Mr. Wong Man Jick was transferred as a correspondence clerk and Mr. Leung Hip Tong to Pingshan office. The work for this section is now left unattended to.
All forms have been served on the village-elders in Southern District to fill in their population, but most of them have not yet been returned.
Village cards have been filled in as far as the forms have been returned, but there are still quite a lot of things to be filled in.
We have also done some statistics on population, and Sales of Crown land (including P.W.D. sales) and private land.
I have started some graphical works for which I attach herewith the corresponding files for your information and instructions.
(a) Comparation of population in various districts.
(Southern).
Note:- Population for 1931 based on my own notes. Population for 1946 based on Capt. Tsui's
report.
Population for 1947 based on those forms
returned by the village-elders.
(b) Comparation of prices (per acre) of Agricultural and
Building land in the Southern District.
They are very interesting and useful. If anyone, with your kind approval, may take up the accounts, I like very much to do this statistical job. Accounting is rather too dry for me. I have been doing the accounts for nearly 20 years and I should be much obliged to have a change.
Submitted for your kind and favourable consideration.
(Sgd.) Au-Yeung Man.
