The promotion of Mr. T.J. Gould to
Puisne Judge approved by your confidential
(6) on 53999/1/49. telegram No. 1050 dated 6th August, 1949, has
caused a vacancy for a Crown Counsel. I should be grateful for a replacement. Vacancy forms are attached.

The post will be advertised locally but it is not expected that a suitable candidate will be found here. No appointment will in any case be made without prior consultation with you.

Mr. Maingard, Assistant Crown Solicitor, who is at present on leave in the United Kingdom, is understood to have sought your approval for retirement on health grounds. If his retirement is approved there will be a further vacancy and I should be grateful for a replacement in due course. This vacancy, if it occurs, will also be advertised locally. The qualifications for and duties of the post are the same as those specified in the vacancy forms now forwarded.
