The edjust.unt of the difference between the estimated and the actual approved ann- ual expenditure and income shall be made annually, after the end of the fourth quarter, when the audited accounts for the year have been approved by the Director of Education.

The approved expenditure on which the Grant

shall be estimated may include :-

(iv) Approved Other Charges.

SALARIES AND STAFF

Expenditure on account of salaries shall be estimated for Grant purposes at the rates laid down in the following sections of these regulations, or at the rates actually paid by the School Managers whichever are the less. Provision for the salaries of staff on approved leave and of relief staff in place of those on such leave may also be included.

Overseas Trained Teachers. The salaries of teachers who have approved intcrnal degrees or teachers' diploma of British Commonwealth, Europeen, or American, Universities, and have undergone a full-time internal course of at least 2 years' duration at such an institution, may be approved for Grant purposes at the rates given for Assistant Teachers in the Burn- ham Scale of August, 1945 with the addition of six increments to both the minimum and the maximum of thw scale (See appendix I

Assistant Masters & Mistresses. The salaries of teachers who are graduates of Hong Kong University and have successfully undertaken a course of professional training in Educ- ation may be approved for Grant purposes at the rates given in the Government scales for Assistant Masters and Assistant Mistresses (See appendix III). In the absence of sufficient Hong Kong University graduates to fill requirements, and in other special cases, graduates of other universities with suitable degrees and training approved by the Director of Education may also be included on the salary scales for Assistant Masters and Mistresses.

Approved graduates who have not undertaken a suitable teachers training course may in special cases be permitted to count 3 years' approved teaching experience in lieu of training.

Anglo-Chinese and Vernaculer teachers.

The salaries of

suitably trained Anglo-Chinese & Vernacular Teachers may be approved for Grant purposes at the rates given in the Government
