Subordinate Staff. The salaries of subordinate non- teaching staff may be approved for Grant purposes at Government rates (See appendix VIII) and the numbers allowed shall be not more than as in similar Government Schools

Cost of Living Allowances. Approved expenditure on salaries for Grant purposes may also include Cost of Living Allowances for all Grant School staff at the same rates as

for Government staff.

LEAVE

25.

After periods of not less than four years' resident service European teachers appointed from overseas shall be eli- gible for eight months' full pay leave (without allowances) in- cluding the period of travel, at the discretion of the Managers if the exigencies of staffing permit. Such leave may not be spent in the Colony except on special grounds approved by the . Director and subject to the following conditions :

A medical certificate shall be furnished by a Government Medical Officer that the teacher's health

will not be adversely affected;

The duration of leave shall not exceed eight months less the normal period of travel.

Non-European staff shall be eligible for leave on the same conditions as staff with similar qualifications in Government service, at the discretion of the school managers.

27.

Locally recruited staff and married women teachers will not normally be entitled to long leave or passages except in special cases approved by the Director of Education. 28.

No-pay leave may be granted for special purposes on the recommendation of the Director of Education.

PASSAGES

29.

The expenditure may with the approval of the Director of Education include provision for the cost of second class passages between London and Hong Kong or between the actual port of embarkation or disembarkation and Hong Kong, whichever may be less, for teachers appointed from overseas on first appoint- ment, on taking approved leave, and on approved retirement. Similar passages may also be approved, under certain restrictions as for Government servants, for the wife and family of a European teacher.
