Government juarters.
1. Hon-departmental quarters.
All quarters provided by Government for the accommodation of its officers (excluding hotel and hostel accommodation and quarters specially provided for allocation by certain departments to officers of those departments only), have been divided into grades, or cach of which a ront has been assossed as shown in Appendix A. The grading of quarters and the rents appropriate to cach grade are subject to periodic rovicw.
Copies of
a register of such quarters in grades AA to G showing their grading will be supplied to cach department. The grading of cristing quarters has boon carried out with the advice and assistance of the quartering Committee and the Commissioner of Rating and Valuatior and in each case the size, location and present state of repair have been taken into consideration.
2. Departmental Quarters.
Quarters specially provided for the use of the ●ficers of certain departments (c.g. Medical, Police, Prisons, etc., Departments) have becn
raded in a similar manner and the departments concerned will maintain registers of the quarters under their control. The grading of such quarters has been communicat d separatel, to the departments concerned. In gradin certain o the quarters the fact that officers are required to occupy them in connection with their duties has been taken into consideration, as well es the size, location and condition of the quarters. This fact has led to a lower grading than would have been adopted in other circumstances.
3. Except in cases where oricers are required to occupy certain quarters in connection with their duties, officers will so far as possible be allocated quarters of the grado appropriate to the salaries as shown in Appendix A, but in o quarters of the appropriate grade ere available, quarters o1 a higher or lower Grado may be allocated. Allocation of quarters will not depend solely on the officer's salary but other factors will be taken into consideration, c.g. the officer's position in the public service, the nature of his conditions of service, the number of his dependents, his lonth of service abroad in total and during his current tour. The convenience of officers and their dependents will be considered as well as the convenience of Cover ment. The above principles will apply to the allocation of both departmental and non-Copartmental quarters.
4-. If an officer occupies quartors of a grade appropriate to his basic salary, he will pay the rent laid down for such quarters subject to a maximum of 1/7 of his basic salary.
5. If an officer occupies quarters of a grado higher than that appropriate to his basic salary he will pay the ront of the grade appropriate to his salary. In such a case, if the officer while occupyin, such quarters receives an increment bringing his salary up to that for which the quarters uro graded, he will pay the rent laid dom for the quarters as from the date of the increment.
If an officer occupies quarters of a grade lower than that appropriate to his salary, he will pay the ront laid down for the quarters he is occupying.
7. juarters will normally be allocated to one officer who will pay the whole rent. If he shares the quarters with one or more other o.. ficers, he
