cover of a despatch dated 18th August, 1946; the

paragraph reads:- "The Government agrees generally

with the Committee's (1.e. the Building Reconstruction

Advisory Committee, 1946) view that, so long as the

housing shortage remains acute, rent restrictive

legislation should not be removed, but it will

continue to examine from time to time both the

necessity for its retention and the question of making

any alterations in its provisions. A Committee is now

being set up for the purpose of examining this latter

question."
