SECRETARIAT CIRCULAR No.77•

Amendment to General Order No.128.

General Order 128 is hereby cancelled and the following

substituted therefor:

"128. (1) An examination in law for Cadet Officers will be

held once in each year.

(2) The syllabus for the examination is as follows:

(a) Phipson's Manual of Evidence.

(b) Kenny's Outlines of the Criminal Law.

(c) The Magistrate" by Alison Russoll.

(d) The Ordinances from time to time set out in

Appendix VIII to the General Orders of tho

Government and any amendments or modifications

of such Ordinances.

(3) Cadet Officers will also he required before taking

the Law Examination to attend at the Magistrate's Court

for prescribed periods during tho hearing of Summary and

Committal cases, until the Magistrato is satisfiod that

they have acquired an adequate knowledge of the procedure

in such cases. They may also be roquired to attend the

Attorney General's Chambers for a statod period, which

will normally be one month.

(4) Long leave will not normally be granted to any Cadet

Officer until ho has passod the above examination, and

failure to qualify within four years of first appointment

may also result in the withholding of increments."

The annexure to this Circular shall be added to the General

Orders of this Corern ont as appendix VIIT.
