Before Dr. ulosa left this country C.2.2. consu,t

him on a number of points arising out of the new

salary scaleu. Unfortunately it was not possible to

discuss them with Or, close personally and the

consultation, therefore, had to be by correspondence.

The point which were raised were as followa-:

Jministrative socia

The scale recommended in dollars per month is

720, 720, 760, 800, 840, 880, 920, 960, 1,000,

1,060, 1,120, 1,180 then, subject to an officiency Ba.

1,30, 1,420, 1,540, 1,660, 1,780, 1,900.

it was suggested that it would be better if, after

the 1,000 print, the soule proceeded direct to 1,120

and then by incrementa of 360 a month to £1,600, then

by 200 a month to „1

The above scales gives a big rias after the ninth

year, hen the fumily responsibility and expenses of

the officer begin to increase considerably. This

follows the practice in the West and ast African

Colonies, and it also occurs in the existing Hong Kon

scale. The scule also avoids the 90 incremente

suggested by Jr. ulous and provides regular increment

of 245 per annum up to ¿1,600 with 160 incremente

thereafter. It makes the Hong Kong c.le of the sum

length as the Halayan wiministrative soule but it

reduces the maximum to z1,650 us compared with £1,67
