"The report of the Hong Kong Salaries Commission, which will be published shortly, has been considered by the Secretary of State in the light of the recommendations made by this Government. The Secretary of State has now indicated that the main recommendations of the Report relating to salaries and allowances are acceptable. Further consideration however is being given to the rates of high cost of living allowance and to certain points in connection with the time-scales and expatriation pay. In these some adjustments will be necessary. Final approval is expected by (date to be inserted), on which date it is hoped to implement the recommendations of the Commission relating to salaries and allowances, subject to any modifications on the points referred to above. Secretary of State has agreed that the recommendations relating to salaries and allowances as finally approved shall be effective as from 1st January, 1947, the date recommended by the Salaries Commission. # Ends.
