(7) Nursing Sisters and Senior
Nursing Sisters
It is considered that the two separate
grades should be abolished and that lursing
Sisters should be placed on one long scale
450 to 800 (basic) per mensen with an
efficiency bar at 600 (£437.10.0 - £550 -
£580 2725 per annum for expatriate officers).
This would be in accordance with an arrangement
recently adopted in East Africa.
(8) Assistant Matron
It is considered that this grade should
be retained.
(9) Principal Matron and Matron Grade I
The scale at present attached to the post
of Principal Matron is £500 £600. The revised
salary proposed by the Commission is £1160 per
annum (£960 basic plus £200). The scale at

present attached to the post of latron Grade I
is £420 £480. The revised salary proposed by the Commission is £1025 per annum + 825 bisie plu. ₤200;
In these two cases the increases proposed
are very considerable. They may be partly
justified by the fact that in future both the
Principal liatron and Grade I Matrons will pay
rent for quarters and that in the past both
posts have been seriously underpaid having
regard to the fact that the posts are very
responsible ones, especially the Principal Matron,
who is an Administrative officer in charge of all
nursing arrangements in all Government and Aided
hospitals in Hong Kong. Nevertheless the proposed
salaries for these posts appear to have been fixed
at a very high level in comparison with similar
