The report of the Hong Kong Salaries
Commission which will be published shortly
has been considered by the Secretary of State
for the Colonies in the light of the
recommendations made by this Government. The
Secretary of State has now indicated that the
main recommendations of the Report relating to
salaries and allowances are acceptable.
As regards salaries, further
consideration is being given to the scale for
administrative officers and to some other time-
scales. Adjustments in the latter case are
likely to be few.
The Secretary of State has agreed to
Commission's proposal that expatriation pay
at the rate of approximately 20% of revised
basic salary should be offered as an inducement
to qualified officers from overseas when
suitable local officers of required
qualifications are not available.
The earnings of daily paid workers
