Malayan Governments agree with Hong Kong Report that married women should be eligible for expatriation pay. Trusted recommendation is considered to impose unjustified disability on women who marry Government officers and numbers of women concerned will be very smalle

Malayan Union Government propose that increase of expatriation pay should start above (repeat above £700 because is maximum of a number of scales and there are obvious objections to substantial increase of pensionable allowances to officers who may be on the verge of retirement. Moreover, Hong Kong recommendation la for increase on salaries above £700, Singapore Government would also prefer to avoid increase to officers who may shortly retire, but point out that inclusion for this purpose of £700 in the first platform would involve Lose of $35 a month for 1 year for officers passing £700 point in scale as compared with addition proposed by Trusted at this point and considers this serious anomaly in oase of officers between very highest rates of pay.

Closer examination indicates that no (repeat no) large numbers of officers on scale of which maximum is $700 may, in fact, be on the verge of retirement when they reach the maximum. Although Malayen Union Government sees no hardship in officers on scales going beyond £700 waiting 1 year for increase, I am of the opinion that it would be desirable to avoid this, Unless therefore,

s you feel that uniformity with Hong Kong is more important than avoiding substantial anomaly here, I suggest the 10clusion of £700 in second platform. To covieto

unjustified increase to women (see paragraph 4 above) first platform might then be amended to reed less than 3700 and £700 when it is the salary of a woxan officer",
