High Commissioner, No. 5.

" Governor Singapore, No. 9.

Your telegram No. 75. (189/192)

Expatriation Pay.

On further consideration I am of the opinion that the rates of expatriation pay for women on salerics over £700 as proposed in Governor-General's telogram Q.G. No. 2 are adequate and I withdraw my reservations.

2. The £230 platform proposed by the Governor-General for basic salaries over £1,155 and not exceeding $1,400 would lessen the maximum emoluments proposed by the long Kong Commission for the following professional Officers in Hong Kong:

Labour Officers, Medical Officers, Legal Officers, Assistant Commissioners of Police, Superintendents of Prisons.

It would also affect the emoluments of Cañet officers. Olses 2, Principals of Schools, Inspectors of Schools, Executive angineers, Assistant Superintendents of Orown lande and Surveys and Senior Wireless Engineers at the top end of thoie scales, and give thein £20 per ganum less than Hong Kong Commission recommended over a number of years, although on reaching maximum £1,425 total emoluments are now 250 higher thon Commission's original proposal.

3. The platforma proposed by the Governor-General at £210, 6251 and £280 seem unevenly spaced and I would profer ofther to zake rates £250 in salaries between 61,156 and 21,400 or to restrict £231 platform to aalarios between £1,156 and £3,275 and introduce a new platform of 3250 for salaries between £1,276 and £1,400.
