it should clearly be higher than that for Matron,
Grade I. It is not clear why the post of Principal
Matron, Malaya is graded with that of Matron, General
Hospital, Singapore, but there is justification for
the Hong Kong salary in the fact that Hong Kong, alone among Colonial territories, enjoys
reciprocity with the United Kingdom in respect of
nursing qualifications and has, for example, much
higher standards of nursing than Malaya. The
maintenance of these high standards places
on the Principal Matron, Hong Kong, a greater
responsibility
