I send herewith Hong Kong savingram No. 291 (250)

of the 15th April which deals with the Salaries Commission proposal for compulsory retirement in certain cases at the age of 45.

The duplicate which I have retained is without the two enclosures.

Ought this subject to be registered C.S.D.? If you think so, you will no doubt keep the savingram.

Dr. Sloss is in this country and at a recent discussion with Mr. Sidebotham and myself; before the savingram arrived, said that he had been asked by the Governor of Hong Kong to discuss this subject here. He has with him certain papers which may be of assistance.

Dr. Sloss will be available to discuss this and other points connected with the Salaries Commission proposals on the 5th May (or, failing that, could manage the 6th). He has provisionally earmarked the. 5th. Perhaps you would phone me when you have read the papers.

In filets them supprots

n the 5th of his funts Mr. Whittle Hymy.
