Dear Sirs,

50

HONG KONG.

Proposed Drilling and Geophysical

Investigation.

We have to thank you for your letter of the 17th instant which has received our consideration. We are in agreement with your remarks, excepting the two following points:-

E.

Under this clause you require us to guarantee that the electrical resistivity survey instruments and apparatus shall be available and suitable for use at the time of the Geophysicist's arrival in Hong Kong. We shall naturally insure these items against loss or damage, and will indemnify the Government of Hong Kong against all claims in this respect, but these instruments are of a special nature and we do not hold duplucates, so that in the event of an accident occurring during transit we cannot undertake to replace by other apparatus. In such an event the hire charge for the apparatus will of course not apply.

H. We should point out that in addition to the Government of Hong Kong providing the necessary free labour to assist the driller, it will be necessary for them to provide free assistant labour for the Geophysicist.

We trust that the above remarks will be acceptable to you, and we now await your further communication.

Yours faithfully etc.,

GFD
