REPORT OF THE SELECT COMMITTEE ON THE
APPROPRIATION FOR 1949-50 ORDINANCE
1949.
The Select Committee appointed to consider the Appropriation for 1949-50 Ordinance, 1949, together with the Draft Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the year ending March 31st, 1950, has the honour to submit its report.
Details of revenue and expenditure for all
departments were examined. Only specific recommendations and the more important comments are recorded in the Report HEAD 5. - COLONIAL SECRETARIAT AND LEGISLATURE.
The Committoo recommends additional provision of $13,816 to cover the promotions of three Cadet Officers Class II to Cadet Officers Class I, and minor adjustments in clerical and temporary staff resulting in an increase of expenditure under the Head from $1,084,828 to $1,098,644.
HEAD 6.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY.
The Committee notes the promotion of a Cadet Officer Class II and an Executive Officer Class I, involving additional provision of $9,100, and recommends an increase of expenditure for the Head from $1,279,079 to $1,288,179.
HEAD 7B - VEGETABLE MARKETING ORGANIZATION.
The Committee notes tho revised provision for an Executive Officer Class II and agrees to the inclusion of a new temporary post of Accountant. This has become necessary owing to the detachment of this organisati on from the Agriculture Department, and the growth of the latter, which means that the clerical staff is now fully o ccupied on departmental work.
Expenditure on the Head is increased from $76,852 to
$84,084.
HEAD 8. DISTRICT OFFICE, NEW TERRITORIES.

The Committee recommends the inclusion of a new post of Mines Inspector and agrees tc the transfer of two posts of Women Confidential Assistant from temporary staff to the non-pensionable establishment.
The Committee also recommends that the provision for local public works shouldbe restored to the 1948-49 figure of $35,000.
These proposals result in an increase of expenditure under this Head from $336,790 to $365,990.

HONG KONG REGIMENT.
The Committee recommends the inclusion of t. new post of Woman Confidential Assistant Class II and the consequent increase in provision for the Head from $2,280,503 to $2,285,303.
