HEAD 6
SUBVENTIONS
The Committee recommends the increase of the subventions to the Hong Kong Social Welfare Council and the St. Louis Industrial School to $141,000 and $7,200 respectively.
The effect of these recommendations is to increase the cxpenditure under this Head from $733,530 to $750,730.
HEAD 7
DISTRICT OFFICE NEW TERRITORIES
The Committee noted two minor adjustments in the provision for personal cmoluments resulting from the salaries revision, increasing the expenditure under this Head from $371,823 to 373,863.
HEAD 8
EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
The Committee recommends an increase in the Evening Class allowances from $123,000 to $162,800 to provide for the inauguration of classes for apprentices at the request of the Chinose. Engineers Institute. The Committee further recommends that the Director of Education should submit a report on the progress of the schome after the conclusion of the first term of classes.
The effect of this recommendation is to increase the expenditure under this Head from $12,084,338 to $12,124,138.
HEAD 11 HONG KONG VOLUNTEER DEFENCE CORPS
The Committee recommends the restoration of the messenger establishment to two. They also noted a minor adjustment in the new salary scale for one officer. The not effect is to increase the expenditure under this Head from $330,936 to $331,444.
HEAD 12 - IMPORTS & EXPORTS DEPARTMENT
The Committee noted an adjustment in the establishment of the different grades of Revenue Officer which did not affect the total expenditure.
HEAD 18
MARINE DEPARTMENT
The Committee noted two minor amendments in the provision under personal emoluments in respect of the new salary scales and a reduction in the provision for temporary staff consequent on a reduction in temporary clerks from 18 to 10. The effect of those changes is to reduce the expenditure under this Hoad from $4,636,502 to $4,622,802.
HEAD 19
MEDICAL
DEPARTMENT
The Committee recommends the regrading of the post of Pathologist on the scale of a Modical Officer and the inclusion of $3,000 for allowances to monial staff during the epidemic scason. Certain other minor amendments to the provision for personal emoluments as a result of adjustments in salary scales
wore also noted.
