I have, etc., to refer to your
despatch No. 100 of the 7th May, 1948,
transmitting copies of the Colony's
Estimates for the financial year 1948/49.
In confirmation of my telegram No. 751
of the 7th July I now convey my formal
approval of the Estimates and inform
you that His Majesty's power of
disallowance will not be exercised
the Appropriation 1948, 49
in respect of Ordinance (No. 11 of 1948)
enclosed with your despatch No. 82 of the
19th April, 1948.
2. In my telegram No. 751 I said
that I considered it still necessary to
give permanent strengthening to the
revenue structure and asked if you would
consider further as early as possible
what measures could be taken to this end;
and I referred to the possibility of
increases in the taxes on liquor and
tobacco and in purchase tax.
