is to increase the expenditure under this head from $190,860 to $193,860.
Head 6. Directorate of Air Services.
The Committee recommends the adoption of changes approved by the Secretary of State for the Colonies whereby the salary scale of one Airport Officer is increased to a maximum of £910 and the title and salary of the second Airport Officer reverts to the pre-war status of Marine Supervisor.
The effect of this recommendation is to increase the cxpenditure under this head from $161,558 to $164,574.
Head 8.
District Office, South
The Committee recommends that subhead 7 "Rent of Office" should be reduced from $21,000 to $7,000 as alternative arrangements for office. accommodation will shortly be possible.
The expenditure under this Head will be adjusted from 104,467 to $90,467.
Head 9.
Education Department
The Committee recommends certain minor adjustments which increases expenditure under this head from $7,376,585 to $7,378,025.
A discussion took place over the proposal to provide free milk and vitamin biscuits to school children. The Committee approved the scheme in principle but wished to have fuller information. It was agreed that the Honourable Director of Medical Services and the Director of Education should be asked to submit a comprehensive report on the subject.
Head 12. Hong Kong Naval Volunteer Force
The Committee recommends the temporary appointment for six months of a lady stenographer in order to expedite the despatch of outstanding matters connected with this organisation.
The effect of this recommendation is to increase the expenditure under this head from $2,728 to $4,978.
Head 13. Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps
The Committee recommends certain minor adjustments which reduce the expenditure under this Head from $75,151 to $74,611.
