REF. No.

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT,

HONG KONG.

21st November, 1947.

(24)

Sir,

Would you please refer to the letter from

Mr. T.M. Hazlerigg, Chairman of the University of Hong Kong Medical Degrees Emergency Committee, dated 25th March 1946, and in particular to paragraph 4 of that letter.

Professor Gordon King informed me that nine

further students possessing the requisite qualifications had completed their courses and taken such examinations as would bring them within the terms of the Order of His Majesty in Council.

The Senate of the University had not yet been re-constituted and a meeting of the Hong Kong Medical Degrees Emergency Committee was held on the 7th of November 1947, the minutes of which are attached.

In the absence of Mr. T.M.Hazlerigg, original Chairman of the Committee, it was unanimously decided that I should be appointed Chairman of the Committee under the provision laid down in paragraph 2, section (2) of the Order- in-Council.

After examining the certificates of study prepared by Professor Gordon King and in view of the fact that the formal reconstitution of the University had not yet taken place, it was decided that the immediate recognition of these nine students was only possible through the exercise of the powers conferred by the Order-in-Council.
