gir,
I have the honour to inform you that the Advisory Committee on Education in the Colonies have considered with interest your Director of Fducatica's Annual Report for 1947-48 and have made the following comments with which I should wish to associate myself:

They read with interest the details es to the assessment of grants to grant-aided schools contained in paragraph 40, and the account of tuition fees in paragraph 41.
They noted with satisfaction, from paragraphs 165-6, that plans were being made to develop teacher-training and to increase the number of schools. They were, however, seriously perturbed by the 'dearth of certificated teachers described in paragraph 51, and the paucity of teachers in training at the Northcote Training College (paragraph 26). 3ince expatriate staff are becoming increasingly difficult to secure, it is to be hoped that all possible measures to correct this dearth will be explored, and in particular that such action as might be possible would be taken to encourage the improvement of teachers' salaries in subsidize schools. Further information on the whole question of teacher-training would be welcome.
The Digest of Schools and Pupils (Annex 1, page 48) appears to indicate that 713 pupils are attending the three Training Colleges, which is inconsistent with the figures given in Chapter VIII. Does the figure of 713 relate to pupils in the practising schools attached to the Training Colleges.
GOVERNOR,
