Colonial Office in Washington I obviously could not take any action and although I felt sympathetic I could see no way in which I could assist.
Mrs. Scott was fully prepared for this answer and I think Jackling is sending a telegram to the Foreign Office so that you may be brought into the discussion.
I might add that as she left I asked her how Mr. Thomson was and she gave me a long story of how well Thomson and McDougall had encountered their problems by taking action as they saw fit and without in any way accusing Tommy I should think that if he was aware of Mrs. Scott's visit he was probably smiling behind his hand.
