building of new Government quarters in place of demolished ones on sites which are already formed,

The Government agrees generally with the Committee's view that, so long as the housing shortage remains acute, rent restrictive legislation should not be removed, but it will continue to examine from time to time both the necessity for its retention and the question of making any alteration in its provisions. A committee is now being set up for the purpose of examining this latter question.

9. A statement of Government's policy regarding the renewal of Crown leases due to expire in the near future was issued on 13th June, 1946.

Government agrees that adequate technical staff should be engaged for the Public Works Department. Everything possible is being done to expedite the return of expert personnel.

Finally it should be noted that all possible steps are being taken by the Services with a view to the release of private accommodation for civilian use.
