A PROCLAMATION TO DETERMINE BRITISH

MILITARY ADMINISTRATION.

Enclosure No. 2.

WHEREAS after the surrender of the Japanese a Military Administration was established by Proclamation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Forces of His Britannic Majesty in the Colony,

AND WHEREAS by or under divers other Proclamations provision was made for the exercise of judicial executive and legislative powers by or by the authority of such Administration,

AND WHEREAS the necessity for the prevention and supression of disorder and the maintenance of public safety otherwise than in accordance with the law applicable to the Colony no longer exists and conditions permit the Administration of the Government of the Colony by the lawfully constituted authority,

AND WHEREAS, the Governor and Commander-in-Chief

of the Colony has now returned.

NOW, I, CECIL HALLIDAY JEPSON HARCOURT, Commander of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Vice-Admiral in His Britannic Majesty's Fleet and Commander- in-Chief of His Britannic Majesty's Forces in Hong Kong, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM:

ARTICLE 1.

CESSATION OF BRITISH MILITARY ADMINISTRATION.

The British Military Administration established by

the aforementioned Proclamation shall cease and determine as from the promulgation of this Proclamation.

ARTICLE 2.

POWERS ASSUMED BY PROCLAMATION TO CEASE UNLESS LAWFULLY CONTINUED.

The powers assumed by or under any Proclamation of

the said British Military Administration shall cease and determine save in so far as they may be continued with or without any modifications by the lawfully constituted authority for the Colony.

ARTICLE 3.

SHORT TITLE.

This Proclamation may be cited as the British Military Administration (Cessation) Proclamation.
