of grudvates of Chinoso Universities who already have done
at least seven years of English study. If it were found
necessary, preliminary courses in English specch and writing
would be arranged and throughout their training as teachers
the study of English phonetics would be of main importance.
Until recently the subjects normally studied by students in
training were taken within the range of the Arts and Science
courses that intendingly teachers took: thus narrowing the range
of their more general studies. Since 1939 the Regulations have
Possibility restricted the admission to the courses for a Teaching Diploma of a lengthened Diploma Course.
to people who already had graduated in the Arts and Science
Paculty. It will become aqnostion for the revived University
to consider whether the Diplom course should not be extended
over a second your. The education system in Hong Kong here-
after is going to be dopendant more and more on locally
educated and trained teachers and it is of importance that
they should be well educated and well trained. Candidates for
China might well think two years study not too long for the
acquiring of faculty in English and skill in teaching. The
Committee having in mind, not a largo beginning, but the
possibilities of development, suggest the following full-time

the tochinique of the teaching of their own subjects:
1
FACULTY OF MEDICINE:
Professor Lecturer (touching
method)
1 Lecturer (Psychology) 3 Lecturers (Phonetics and
Language teaching)
The Faculty of Medicine was better provided
in stoff, buildings and equipment than the
other Faculties, but even so, moderization of equipment and
increase of staff were needed before the outbreak of War.
