The importance of this Department of Medical Education in the conditions of Hong Kong cannot be overstressuã. in order to achieve a close integration of terching and practice it was agreed that the Deputy Director of the Medical Services of the Hong Kong Government should hold also the Professorship in the University. The arrangement had not worked long enough before the War to justify a judgment of its success or failure. museum of Hygiene was in process of developing when War supervened. A post-graduate course held in 1941 attended by about forty medical men, mainly from China and the Forcus, convinced the University Council that it would be justified in making provision for refresher courses in a wide rune of medical subjects, for post-graduate Diploma courses in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. If this lattor development were achieved it might be necessary for the Professorship to become a full- time appointment.

Pathology.

The University Department does the Pathological work of the Government Hospitals on the Island of Hong Kong as well as of the University wards of the hospitals. Its very complete museum was looted by the Japanese, and the records of over thirty years work destroyed.
