Universities",
I think these words were probably written
before the all of Hongkong. Now that the British Council has built up a rather large and quite efficient organisation in China, which will ultimately settle probably in Peiping under the leadership of Prof. P. M. Roxby, the well-known geographer, with branches in most of the big centres, I do not think this function could suitably be ascribed to Hongkong University.
I had hoped to have been able to include some latest views of Professor Lindsay hide's in this letter, but as owing to the surrender, he is probably now already in Hongkong, and temporarily out of reach, I am unable to do so,
Assuming you have no objection, I am copying this letter 90 Rev. Noel Slater of the Boend of Christian Colleges, who asked me to keep them informed of my recommendations about
longkong University.
Yours sincerely,
(signed) Joseph Needham.
