Resolution passed by the Shanghai Branch of the HongKong

University Alumni Association

"Whereas the University of Hongkong has been badly devastated by the Japanese in their ruthless attempt to uproot British influence in the Far East and the re-opening of this institution of learning will depend upon the approval and support by H.B.MGovernment of the scheme for the purpose now being submitted by Mr. D.J. Sloss Vice Chancellor of the University.

Whereas the University of Hongkong has played and will continue to play a very important part in fostering cultural relationship and promoting mutual understanding between the Chinese and British peoples: and

Whereas the graduates and past students of the University of Hongkong domiciled in Shanghai area, in common with those residing in other parts of China, are firmly convinced that for the reasons above stated, the University should not only be rehabilitated and re-opened as soon as possible, but also re-organized, expanded and adequately endowed so that its important functions may not be curtailed by limitations of means.

It is resolved that the strongest possible support be extended to the efforts now being made to rehabilitate and re-open the University of Hongkong and that the attention of H.B.M. Government be invited through its representative in Shanghai to give due consideration and adopt the scheme for re-organizing and re-opening the University submitted by the Vice Chancellor.'
