TO COMMANDER IN CHIEF HONG KONG

1945. 19.00 hrs, (to Admiralty for onward
transmission)
It has been agreed that salaries of following Hong Kong Government officials will accrue during period of internment:-
2.
(a) those in pensionable posts whether engaged
locally or externally. ·
(b) those in non-pensionable posts engaged
externally.
(c) those in non-pensionable posts engaged locally
who were interned provided
(1) they were engaged prior to 1st August 1939
being approximately the date the
Compulsory Service Ordinance No. 32 of 1939 came into force; and
(ii) they were engaged on a contract for a
period of not less than a year; or on the understanding that their employment would be at least of a semi-permanent nature and not (repeat not) purely an ad hoc war-time appointment,
Similar treatment may be accorded in the case of officials of Raffles College and teachers in grant-aided schoola where remuneration was based on Government scales. Officials contributing to Provident Funde should be accorded the same treatment as officials filling pensionable posts.
