Enclosure No. 2.

(Translation)

His Excellency Sir Geoffry Northcote.

Your Excellency,

I have just received a report from Mr. Hang Li-wu (Han Lih Wu) stating that Your Excellency, in the name of the University of Hong Kong, has appointed a Commission (Committee) for the purpose of considering the future development of the University and paying special attention to means of promoting co-operation between Hong Kong and China. I received the report with extreme pleasure and satisfaction.

The cultural relationship between your illus- trious Country and China has always been regarded as cordial, and Hong Kong is the most active and most important point of contact between the two Nations. Now Your Excellency has planned for the further advancement of this already cordial relationship, and I view your high purpose and far sight with unfeigned admiration.

As Mr. Hang is leaving for Hong Kong to participate in the deliberations of the Commission, I avail myself of the opportunity to send to Your Excellency this special message expressing my greetings and wishing the Commission every success.

With all good wishes,

Chiang Chung-ching (Chiang Kai-shek)
