I annex a letter which Mr. Gent has received from Sir Andrew Caldecott explaining why he would find it impossible for him to accept the Chairmanship of the Hong Kong University Advisory Committee.

Mr. Gent

is at present away (indisposed) but on his return I am sure that he would be glad to have your observations on the views expressed by Sir A. Caldecott.

Committee, I should be glad to know whether you have

any other names to suggest from which we might select another Chairman.
