Ref. No.54147/45.

The Under Secretary of State for the Colonies,
Colonial Office, London, S.W.1.

Dear Sir,

August 10th, 1945.

With further reference to Mr. Paskin's letter of 3rd inst. I find that Mr. John Wilson was a part-time Assistant in the Spanish Department of this University from 1925 to 1936.

The Head of the Department has a very high opinion of Mr. Wilson and informs me that he carried out his duties in a most thorough and conscientious manner. I am afraid I have insufficient information to enable me to express an opinion regarding Mr. Wilson's suitability for the posts referred to in your letter. It is understood, however, that he was at one time on the teaching staff of George Heriot's School, Edinburgh, and is at present Rector of Peebles High School, and I have no doubt you have also referred the question to the Governors of these schools.

Yours faithfully,

Alex. Bearn,
Vice-Chancellor and Principal.
