Megara H.L. Mackenzie, Hill, D.F. Davies, London, now in Hay Kay,
3. I have consulted Mr. Handyside (late of the Education Department, Hong Kong) and neither of us sees how it will be possible to know what books, laboratory equipment etc. could be ordered without further information.
We are expecting an early report by telegram on educational needs, including the University, and when this is received something can probably be done.
40 There is reported to be a handful of students, mostly in Macao, who might be up to a modified matriculation standard: it may be a question of having their papers sent to this country for correction. They could then possibly start on a course for M.B. early in 1946 provided some sort of teaching staff can be made available by that date. Whether this will lead to final qualifications up to B.M.C. standard remains to be seen.
